No new courthouse!

To the Editor:

I have followed with amazement the reports about plans to build a new Hertford County courthouse at a new site.

On Tuesday the axe fell.  The courthouse is to be in Murfreesboro.  The Mayor of Murfreesboro was quoted saying how the way of life in Murfreesboro would be enhanced.

Where does that leave Winton?

And where are the right thinking tax-paying citizens of Hertford County?  Do you really think it’s a good idea to spend more than $7 million on a new courthouse? Now?  Seriously?

I am a native of Hertford County and a taxpayer and I, for one, say NO NEW COURTHOUSE!  Please.

    the bad part of this is…the right thinking taxpayers aren’t given the option of how thier hard earned tax monies is spent! The elected officals get to decide how your money is thrown away!!
