Gates sweeps West

GATESVILLE – Gates County High School’s softball team swept a Wednesday doubleheader at home.

The Lady Barons won the first game of the doubleheader 5-4 over Northampton West.

In the first inning, the Lady Hurricanes scored two runs with the key hit coming form Charnitra Butcher with an RBI double. That staked the Hurricanes out to an early 2-0 lead.

Gates County didn’t score in the first inning.

In the second inning, the Lady Barons added five runs to surge ahead.

In the third inning the lady Hurricanes added two more runs with a key hit coming from Kesauna Scott with a two-RBI double.

The Lady Barons were shutdown in the third inning. I

In the fourth inning the Lady Hurricanes were shutdown so were the Lady Barons.

Gates County was led by Ashley Brown who was 1-for-3 with an RBI, Jenna Evans was 1-for-3 with an inside the park homerun and 2 RBIs.

The Lady Hurricanes were led by Tierra Webb who was 3-for-3 with an RBI, Brooke Roberts was 2-for-3 and Charnitra Butcher was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

It was a very competitive game and came down to the last inning as the Lady Barons played good defense in the last innings to secure the win and got a good pitching performance from Brittany Eure who was key down the stretch.

The Lady Barons won game two on the doubleheader 18-5.

In the first inning, the Lady Hurricanes scored three runs with a key hit coming from Tierra Webb who drove in two runs with a single.

The Lady Barons answered with seven runs in the first to pull out to a 7-3 lead. The key hit coming from Mikayla Hill who blasted a double driving in two runs also two RBIs by Jenna Evans, Lauren Burgess and Angel Rogers.

In the second inning, the Lady Hurricanes scored two runs with a key hit coming from Charnitra Butcher who drove in a run.

The Lady Barons added five runs to extend the lead to 12-5 with a key hits coming from Ashley Brown, Jenna Evans, Lauren Wagoner – all driving in a run.

In the fourth frame, the Lady Hurricanes were shutdown in order.

The Lady Barons added one run when Ashley Brown hit an inside the park homerun.

In the fifth inning, the Lady Barons added five more runs to seal the win 18-5 with a key hit coming from Mikayla Hill who had a bases clearing single and the game was called due to the runs rules.

The Lady Hurricanes were led by Tierra Webb who had two RBI’s and a single.

The Lady Barons were led by Lauren Wagoner who 3-for-4, Jenna Evans who was 2-4 with a triple and Ashley Brown who had two RBI’s and was also 2-for-4 with a double and a inside the park homerun and drove in four runs.
