JACKSON — Two Northampton County men are facing drug related charges after being arrested in separate incidents.

The most recent arrest came on Tuesday when law enforcement officers made an unexpected discovery in Margarettsville after they responded to an alarm call.

According to Northampton County Sheriff Wardie Vincent, his office received a call for an alarm at a residence. When officers arrived they found marijuana plants growing.

Vincent said deputies found the marijuana growing in containers in the back of the residence.

Melvin Newsome Daniel, 59, of NC 186 was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and manufacturing marijuana.

He was placed in the Northampton County Jail on a $15,000 secured bond. Daniel has since posted bail and was released.

On Monday, deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling on NC 48 near Gaston. Vincent said the traffic stop was conducted after NCSO drug agents received information about the vehicle.

Vincent said Marwan Lewis Stokes, 26, of 42 Wide St., Emporia, Va. was arrested and charged with simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was transported to the Northampton County Jail on a $15,000 secured bond. Vincent said Stokes has posted bond and has been released.

Vincent thanked citizens for providing information to his office.

“This is a result of citizens working together to keep the county and their families safe,” he said.
