Melvin C. Bell

GARYSBURG n Melvin Cornelius Bell, 48, died March 26, 2005 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Thursday at Roanoke Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Jackson, by the Rev. Franklin D. Williams. Interment will be in the church cemetery. H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, is in charge.

April N. Lee

LEWISTON n April Nicole Lee, 22, a native of Hertford County, died March 22, 2005 at Bertie Memorial Hospital, Windsor.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mill Branch Baptist Church by the Rev. Ronald M. Dolberry. Burial will be in Wilder-Cherry Family Cemetery, Aulander. Wilder's Funeral Home Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Miss Lee was a member of Mill Branch Baptist Church, Aulander.

Survivors include her mother, Annie Laura Lee of Lewiston; sisters, Katrina Lee and Felicia Lee, both of Lewiston; and her grandmother, Ollie Lee of Lewiston.

Bertine H. Saunders

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Bertine H. &uot;Lay&uot; Saunders, 84, a native of Sunbury, died March 25, 2005, in Chesapeake General Hospital. She was the widow of Timothy Saunders.

Mrs. Saunders was a member and usher of Little Zion Baptist Church, Bowers Hill, Chesapeake. She was also a member of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include a son, Paul Hunter Saunders of Chesapeake; a sister, Mary Beamon of New Haven, Conn.; two brothers, Leamon Hunter of New Jersey and Brookus Hunter of New Haven; and a grandchild.

A funeral was conducted Wednesday in Little Zion Baptist Church Bowers Hill, Chesapeake, by the Rev. Edward E. McNair Jr. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. Corprew Funeral Home was in charge. Condolences may be sent to www.corprewfuneralhome.com.

Earlene W. Welch

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Earlene Weaver Welch, a native of Hertford County, died March 26, 2005, at Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Welch retired from the Naval Exchange Amphibious Base as a sales clerk in the camera and photography department.

Survivors include her husband, William R. Welch Sr.; three children, William R. Welch Jr., Tracy Welch and Keith Welch Sr.; two sisters, Alice Richardson and Shirley Hamilton; five brothers, James Robert, Thomas, Larry, Johnny and Curtis Weaver; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Homecoming services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Graves Funeral Home, 1631 Church St., Norfolk. Burial will be at Roosevelt Memorial Garden. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home Thursday.

Irene U. Parker

GATES – Irene U. Parker, 87, died March 28, 2005. She was the widow of Thomas W. Parker.

Mrs. Parker was a homemaker and a member of Kittrells United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Marian P. Brinkley; two sisters, Bonnie U. Mathias and Mildred U. Kirsch; two grandchildren; four great-granddaughters.

A funeral was conducted Wednesday at Sidney F. Harrell Chapel of Harrell & Hill Funeral Home. Burial was in Holly Lawn Cemetery. Winfred L. Fleetwood

RALEIGH n Winfred Lee Fleetwood, 51, a native of George, died March 24, 2005.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Jerusalem Baptist Church, Woodland by the Rev. Ronald Taylor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Whidbee Funeral Home Inc., Rich Square, is in charge.

Carrie S. Morings

GATES n Carrie Saunders Morings, 84, a native of Gates County, died March 25, 2005, at Down East Nursing Home, Gatesville. She was the widow of Leroy Morings.

A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday at Stoney Branch Missionary Baptist Church, Gates, by the Rev. Wesley J. Boone and the Rev. Michael Holloman. Burial will be in the Gatling Cemetery, Gates. A viewing will be conducted from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Nora and Vernon Moody of 28 Sarem Road, Gates. Stallings Funeral Chapel, Gatesville, is in charge.

Survivors include two daughters, Nora Moody and Carolyn Boone, both of Gates; five sons, Lee Stanley Morings of Murfreesboro, Walter Morings of Gates, Henry Boone Jr. of Kingston, N.Y., Larry McCoy Saunders of Atlantic City, N.J., and James Boone of North Wilkesboro; one brother, Larry Saunders of Gates; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Phillip D. Vick

JAMESVILLE n Phillip Dale Vick, 41, a native of Sampson County, died March 29, 2005 in Bertie County.

A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Poplar Chapel Church of Christ by the Rev. Ernie Williams. Burial will be in Jamesville Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Poplar Chapel Church of Christ and other times at the residence. Biggs Funeral Home, Inc., is in charge.

Vick was employed with Schueck Steel Co., as a welder.

Survivors include his wife, Michelle Hayes Vick; a son, Phillip Daniel Vick of Williamston; a daughter, April Vick Harrell of Ahoskie; stepsons, Brian Barr, Justin Barr and Dustin Barr, all of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wiley D. Vick of Tarboro; sisters, Janie Dail of Tarboro, Marilyn Dunning of Aulander and Annette Mayo of Falkland; one brother, Sammy Vick of Rocky Mount; and three grandchildren.
